Threadbare: Installation in Progress
Threadbare is an installation composed of several independent but interrelated components. It is a highly subjective response to the work of Gustave Moreau (1826 - 1898). It is conceived as a contemporary dialogue with Moreau and his sensibility, and not as a historical reconstruction or critique. In consonance with Moreau's multi-layered and idiosyncratic approach to painting, the components of Threadbare are juxtaposed to create a complex interaction of cross-references and associations. These relate not only to the contemporary world, and to the immediacy of the new works created for Threadbare, but also to the history of Moreau's particular Romanticism and his innovative painterly techniques, as well as to the context for which the installation was originally designed.
