Suite for Bass and Ironing Bored (1981-1984)
The Suite is structured into color movements. The music integrates jazz, Japanese koto rhythms, and theme from popular TV shows, uniquely woven with the classical and the abstract. The ironing of primary and secondary colors created a visual pallet and the action provided a humorous interplay between the bass and ironing situation. The performance incorporated a video tape of 42 Chicago personalities who "performed" their own version of the ironing task. This video portion was done in collaboration with Tom Baggs in 1982. "What intrigues me is the affinity between the two 'instruments' - the similarity and repetition of gesture."
