Press Release from 1980:
Clock:Watch, The Effects of Time on the Artist, a performance/installation
as part the First Los Angeles Performance Festival sponsored by LACE and Highland Art Agents at the Vanguard Gallery.
"I am to sit on a chair in a bare room for 24 hours. An industrial type black and white clock is situated on the wall behind the chair. There is a viewing window in the center of the front wall. A camera, mounted on the wall, will automatically photograph me, the chair, and the clock, every hour on the hour. These photographic documents will then be assembled into a limited edition portfolio.
I am very attracted to stark elements in Clock:Watch, the sophisticated design of the raw room and chair, the subtle effects of play - sounds versus isolation, the protective sterile warmth of the brightly lit chamber that would contain and manipulate me. Many forces will be working here to create a situation that is definitely something but almost nothing. The "something" is to be transmitted by attitude - constantly maintaining a performing awareness even if sleep occurs.
This performance concerns time, space, and stamina.
