AprèsDistillé video scroll (2023)
AprèsDistillé traces a path that started with Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary and led the artist Sandra Binion through landscapes and lives as she examined the roots of the author’s obsession with earthly detail and psychological entanglement. Flaubert’s novel was the core of the artist’s long-term interdisciplinary project Distillé, shown between 2012 and 2021 in various iterations in the US, France, and Japan. Along the way, she sharpened her own focus on transforming the everyday and the discarded into poetic images that invite a viewer’s mind to wander, navigate, return, and reflect. The thirty photographs of AprèsDistillé were first collected into a book in 2022 and have now been reconfigured into a video scroll in which the images behave like still versions of cinematic scenes, drifting horizontally across several monitors, accompanied by Lou Mallozzi’s sound composition created with musicians Ken Vandermark, Lia Kohl, Kikù Hibino, Hal Rammel, and Josh Berman. This looping scroll traces a path leading into the future, where her sensibilities can find new homes, new hallucinations, new storms, new mists, and new mirrors.
AprèsDistillé retrace un parcours qui a débuté avec Madame Bovary de Gustave Flaubert et a conduit l’artiste Sandra Binion à travers des paysages et des vies alors qu’elle examinait les racines de l’obsession de l’auteur envers les détails terrestres et l’enchevêtrement psychologique. Le roman de Flaubert a été au coeur du projet interdisciplinaire à long terme de l’artiste, Distillé, présenté entre 2012 et 2021 sous diverses formes aux États-Unis, en France et au Japon. Au fil du temps, elle a aiguisé son propre intérêt pour la transformation du quotidien et du rebut en images poétiques qui invitent l’esprit du spectateur à errer, à naviguer, à revenir sur ses pas et à réfléchir. Les trente photographies d’AprèsDistillé ont d’abord été rassemblées dans un livre en 2022 et sont maintenant en vidéo sous la forme d’une bande déroulante dans laquelle les images se comportent comme des arêts sur images de scènes cinématographiques, dérivant horizontalement sur plusieurs moniteurs, accompagnées par la composition sonore de Lou Mallozzi créée avec les musiciens Ken Vandermark, Lia Kohl, Kikù Hibino, Hal Rammel, et Josh Berman. Cette bande en boucle trace un chemin vers l’avenir, où les sensibilités de Sandra Binion peuvent trouver de nouveau chez soi, de nouvelles hallucinations, de nouvelles tempêtes, de nouveaux brouillards et de nouveaux miroirs.

「Distillé」という学際的プロジェクトは、2012年から2021年までアメリカ、フランス、日本で様々な形式で展示されました。このプロジェクトの中心はフローベールの小説で、アーティストは制作の過程で日常や捨てられたものを詩的なイメージに変化させることに焦点を絞り、観る人が思索し、探求し、立ち返り、そして反省するよう誘う作品を創り上げました。
「AprèsDistillé」の30枚の写真は2022年に初めて一冊の本にまとめられ、現在はビデオ·スクロールとして再構成されています。映像はまるで映画のシーンの静止版のように、複数のモニターを水平に漂います。このスクロールには、ルー·マロッツィがケン·ヴァンダーマーク、リア·コール、キク·ヒビノ、ハル·ラメル、ジョシュ·バーマンという音楽家たちと共同で作り上げた音楽が伴います。この繰り返し再生されるスクロールは、彼女の感性が新しい場所、新たな幻想、新しい嵐、新しい霧、新しい鏡を探し求める未来へと道を開きます。
